SUNRISE SWIMMERS

Round up of our March 2025 BWN get-together with Guest speaker - Anne Spudvilas

Anne reminisced about how she started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil. With a plentiful supply of butchers paper from her mother, and pencils from her grandfather.

She grew up in Geelong and had a serendipitous and interesting career, drawing for newspapers, working at an Advertising Agency, attending arts school for 3 years, publishing illustrated books, print making, teaching drawing workshops in schools, courtroom artist and of course pursuing her own passion for painting and drawing.

In the screen presentation we were treated to many of the portraits, sketches and wonderful photography which forms just a fraction of her collection and for which she has won many awards.

A special treat was hearing the story of Anne creating illustrations for The Peasant Prince which afforded her the opportunity to travel to China. The Peasant Prince tells the remarkable true story of a 10-year-old peasant boy's journey from impoverished rural China to the international dance scene.

Anne's book Swan Lake is available for sale, if you would like a copy please contact her directly via hello@annespudvilas.com

At the age of 60, Anne moved from a second floor apartment on a busy highway in Melbourne to 1.5 acres on the Murray/Darling junction where she lived and worked for ten years, running workshops at her studio Riverbank Press.

Her most recent move of course was to Indented Head. A place close to her heart, with childhood memories of camping down here opposite the Ozone wreck. As our Bellarine does, she's been embraced by the community and also enjoys a daily invigorating swim with the Salty Bitches.

In April 2025 Anne's exhibition of photographs were displayed at Hat Rock Contemporary, 2330 Portarlington Road, Portarlington.

"This is the first time I've had a solo show of my photos so I'm really looking forward to a big, noisy opening full of your happy smiling faces"
