Bellarine Smokehouse & Provedore
At the Bellarine Women's Network August get-together, Sarah Fenton shared with the group the joys and challenges of running a small business and the importance of community.
Sarah lived in Melbourne and moved to the Bellarine approximately 9 years ago. Initially visiting St Leonards with the intention of finding a weekender, plans quickly changed when she decided to make the Bellarine her permanent home.
Sarah’s business has evolved over the past seven years, starting with the purchase of a Smokehouse business, Sarah now operates two businesses Bellarine Smokehouse and Bellarine Provedore.
The Provedore stock is locally sourced and the business supports artists as well as chefs from hatted restaurants on the Bellarine. The upstairs area of Bellarine Smokehouse & Provedore can accommodate up to 20 guests for a shared table degustation experience. Sarah’s also planning to offer adult Sri Lankan cooking classes in the near future.
With a sense of wellness and community, Sarah was one of a small group instrumental in developing a swimming group. The "Salty Bitches" (named after her dog Lucy) evolved during Covid and is now part of the local community with many swimmers meeting in the early morning hours in front of the Indented Heads Yacht Club for their daily dip.
A strong belief in standing up for what you believe in lead Sarah to stand as an Independent candidate in a previous state election.
Bellarine Smokehouse & Provedore is located at 93 Murradoc Road Drysdale.
